Russell Bazaar

This weekend , I spent a total of 28 hours at the Russell Bazaar in Detroit, MI on I-75 and Clay.  I was selling my jewelry there but most importantly I was introduced to a whole new world of entrepreneurship in Detroit.  All of the vendors are amazing, friendly, warm, and supportive.  There are a range of shops from dirtless plants to barber salons to seamstresses to natural, healing herbs to jewelers like myself.
I highly encourage anyone living in the Detroit area to go check it out and support local businesses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace!

Spiritual Signs

Have you ever noticed energetic signs flowing into your consciousness?  You find yourself talking to someone who is reiterating a beautiful point that had just been made by someone else you were talking to the previous day.  Where everything you do seems to be pointing you in a particular direction? Well, it is happening to me.  As mystical as it may sound, I believe my energy is attracting a certain message that I am supposed to be paying attention to RIGHT NOW about how energy is integral to our beings and to reality and it is something that can not be ignored.  This month alone, I have received 6 signs.

1) I shadowed a doctor using energy to treat autistic children.

2) I read the book, The Famished Road, it is a wonderfully spiritual book about an Abiku child who has not relinquished his ties to the spiritual world and thus he can see spirits in the world.

3) My aunt passed away from low oxygen levels and the day after, I learned reflexology.  Reflexology is a highly energetic field of work.  Our instructor even explained that reflexology can help amputees because you are essentially working on the magnetic energy being emitted from their body, which can then have a physiological effect.  In our workshop, one of our instructors gave an example of how reflexology had helped someone in the exact same situation as my aunt (same condition and everything) but it was a day too late.  Was this a coincidence or  was it a calling?

4) The next Friday, I go home for the funeral and my god mother, Geri Love is in town.  I haven't seen her in so many years that I wouldn't have known who she was if it wasn't for the picture I'd seen of her on her website.  And guess what type of work she does???? ENERGY HEALING!! Ah, perfect!  We proceed to have a very interesting discussion with my mother, where we never actually talk about energy but where for the first time, I was totally aware of the various energies being emitted from each person and the effects those energies were having on the words and thoughts of each individual...hmm.  Geri spoke on perception of reality and how that shapes people's actually realities whether its real or not.

5) The next day (which was yesterday), one of my cousins said the EXACT same thing about perception...hmmm.

6) Today, my friend from New York was randomly in Ann Arbor, he stopped by quickly to say hello and guess what he downloaded onto my computer???? A 9 disk audio set by Carolyn Myss called ENERGY ANATOMY...I mean seriously.

So what do you think?  Is the universe sending me a sign?  Should I be going in this direction? Is medical  school the answer? I know I am meant to be a healer, but what kind?  My energy is clearly attracting some fairly clear signs, maybe I should listen.

My Beautiful Aunt

When I get more pictures, I am going to surely put them up but for now, I just want to show the world the dynamic woman I have cried a river for over the last 3 months.  I love you Auntie and I know your spirit still remains and now you are free of the restrictions of your earthly body.  You may travel across the universe and into dimensions unreachable to mere humans.  I love you and wish you the best on your journeys through time and space, reuniting with God and the Energy of the Universe.

Roots of Sapphire gets a Logo!

The Logo is finally in, probably won't be the final draft.  The jewel will be blue and I'm thinking of making the letters brown, like a tree trunk!
In the meantime, Roots of Sapphire Jewelry will be making appearances at the Women's Expo at the University of Michigan on Saturday, March 27th and also at the Noir Cosmopolitan Fashion Show on Sunday, March 27th.  A busy weekend for the Roots.

John Legend and Effleurage

Today, was interesting.  I woke up knowing I was coming down with something but I wasn't sure what.  I was looking forward to Dance class and then realized I forgot to print my paper about Alvin Ailey but couldn't because my printer ran out of black ink and I also couldn't find an exam that I wanted to have regraded by my GSI.  By the time I realized that the search for the exam was getting me know where and the printer wouldn't even print in purple even though I still have blue and red ink, I was extremely LATE for dance and she made me sit and observe AND take notes.

The rest of the day was productive; I studied lots of skeletal and integumentary system material, I diagnosed my illness and started on my medication, and I came close to finishing retightening my locks.  But something happened around 1:30 pm, I am not at liberty to share but lets just say I went into sort of an emotional frenzy/realization/awakening/breakdown; it was intense.

So, here is the therapy I used to feel better:

1) Sat outside in the sun for about 10 minutes, reflecting but trying very hard to clear my mind.

2) Drove to Massage Therapy School and listened to John Legend's "Another Again" (if you don't know this song, listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJf6aeq-PSs : story of my LIFE, SERIOUSLY)

3) Learned and received an effleurage massage.  Even though I probably shouldn't have recieved a massage because I'm sick, I was SO heavenly and when I got off that table!...I felt like an entirely new person.

**Effleurage is a long sweeping movement which may be applied superficially or deeply.  The client should experience one continuous movement, conforming to the contours of the body.

Spring Break "Diet"

Now traditionally, i am not a fan of diets.  I feel like you should eat healthy ALL the time, not eat greasy foods and then starve yourself for three days...but Spring break is in a week and a half and I just can't stand the thought of being uncomfortable in my bikini or having to scrutinize and delete every picture with cellulite showing. NO, I just want to be confident and sexy!!!! To make sure that this happens, I will be doing a simple one week diet that will supposedly help me drop 5 lbs (in JUST a week)!!

So, here it goes:

Your week long plan is made up of 2 integral parts: The fitness part and the nutritional one.

Fitness part
Day 1: Do at least one hour of aerobic activity. You can an evening walk, go swimming, play some sports with your friends, go running, or anything else which gets your heart beat racing. Aerobics burn a lot of calories which is your main objective in your week long efforts.
Day 2: Do one hour of strength exercises. If you have a gym membership now is the time to use it. But even if the only place you workout is at home, you can still do an effective workout. Do some pushups, crunches, squats, or borrow some dumbbells from a friend.
Day 3: One hour of aerobics, the same as day 1.
Day 4: Take some time off from physical activity to allow your muscles to rest.
Day 5: The same as day 1.
Day 6: One hour of strength training. Make sure you work at least 2 muscle groops.
day 7: The same as day 1.

Nutritional part
1. Eat at least 3 different vegetables each day.
2. Eat 2 pieces of fruit each day.
3. Do not eat any fried food, fast food or candy.
4. Reduce salt intake to just about ZERO.
5. Drink 8-10 glasses of water each day.
6. Eat 4-5 small meals each day instead of 3 big ones.
7. Reduce the amount of carbs that you eat.
8. Eat at least one portion of protein each day, like fish, meat, eggs or soy.
Follow these guidelines and you will be 5 pounds slimmer after one week.

Pretty simple right?  And if you already eat healthy with the occasional BOX of Townhouse Crackers (like I ate last week, smh), then this shouldn't be that hard.  I know the things I'll miss the most will be hot sauce, soy sauce and Sriracha.  If anyone has any spicy alternatives to these salty sauces, let me know!

Abstraction Seeking Connectivity 1

Engineering + Jewelry-Making + Sisterlocks + Northwood community Aide + NSBE Vice President + Massage Therapy School + Studying French in Senegal + Medical School

Trying to make everything in life fit together is not always easy...I just had to lay out all the things I am balancing right now because these will be the most popular themes of future blog entries.

For example, today was meant to be a prefect study day, nothing but time to do Stats homework like any good student would do.  But instead, I spent  my time taking pictures of jewelry (Some turned out to be quite artistic by the way) and uploading them to the new website, whichi will be advertised within the coming week.  Only taking short breaks to eat a piece of bread or a bowl of lentil soup (doctored up with red curry powder, black pepper and lawries seasoning salt) and to meet with Peter Tai who knows all there is to know about modeling fluid flow with lumped and bifurcation models.  By the time I was mentally ready to start homework, it was time to head over to the Northwood dessert festival to clean-up, where I unintentionally ate more sweets than my poor body could handle, then spent the rest of the night collection polystaltic pumps and tubing for our "mock-up" of an external device for the bronchoscopic lavage procedure....fun right?!?!

Michigan engineering has really transformed me into a nerd but that's ok cause I'm a cute nerd!!!
